I International Forum on Tourism and Heritage 2016: Water, Heritage and Sustainable Tourism

The Tourism, Heritage and Culture Department, of Portucalense University, in Porto, Portugal, is pleased to invite the international academy to contribute to the First International Forum Tourism and Heritage 2016 (IFTH16) to be held 5th - 7th December, 2016.

The first edition of IFTH16 focuses on water as a vital resource now and in the future and intends to promote studies and practices at an international level, having in mind the use and protection of this essential resource for life.

Water is a cultural and natural element present in all societies and landscapes assuming different characteristics in the fields of tangible and intangible heritage. It is a major presence in all territories and an interesting component of the economy and cultural activities. It is characterized by the diversity of human action assuring people and places their own identity.

Today's world brings concerns about the use of natural and cultural resources and recognizes the relevance of tourism, the movement of people and the visitation of spaces for the economic development of countries and regions. The First Forum: tourism and heritage aims to create effective debate on natural and cultural heritage issues, its protection and preservation, and reflect on the importance of tourism as the main element of this whole dynamic.

We are pleased to introduce our guest speakers at the International Forum on Tourism and Heritage 2016 (IFTH16):

 

Professor Alfonso Vargas-Sanchez

Currently is full professor of strategic management at the Spanish University of Huelva. He heads its research group on tourism (GEIDETUR) and the Iberian network of researchers in tourism (REINTUR), being also part of the Andalusian Campus of International Excellence named CEIMAR, focused on marine themes. He has authored a number of papers published in journals such as Tourism & Management Studies; Journal of Tourism and Development; Journal of Travel Research; Annals of Tourism Research; Journal of Sustainable Tourism; Journal of Heritage Tourism; Tourism Management; International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management; Journal of Hospitality Marketing & Management, among others. Editor of “ENLIGHTENING TOURISM. A PATHMAKING JOURNAL”, he serves as Visiting Professor in the UK at the York St John Business School and the School of Business and Entrepreneurship of the RAU, where in addition he is a member of its Advisory Council. Professor José Alvarez Garcia

PhD in Direction and Planning of Tourism by the University of Vigo. Currently he is a professor and researcher at the Accounting and Financial Economy Department of the Faculty of Business Studies and Tourism at the University of Extremadura, (Spain). Previously professor at the University of Vigo. Official University Master's in Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship (University of Vigo) and Master MBA Executive of Business Administration & Management (Business School Caixa Nova). Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of León (Castilla y León-Spain), and Diploma in Health by the National School of Health (Spain). He has published various research articles indexed in international journals and different book chapters. His main research topics are: Quality Management Systems, “Q for Tourist Quality”, Thermalism, Health and Wellness, Wine Tourism, Hunting tourism, Entrepreneurship and Higher Education. Professor Maria Isabel del Val Valdivieso

Catedrática de Historia Medieval de la Universidad de Valladolid. Académica correspondiente de la Real Academia de la Historia (España) y de la Academia Portuguesa de Historia. Miembro del grupo de investigación “Agua espacio y sociedad”, está especializada en el siglo XV castellano. Ha centrado parte de su investigación en la figura de Isabel la Católica, sobre la que realizó su tesis doctoral. Posteriormente ha publicado diferentes trabajos sobre la mencionada reina y su época, y ha trabajado sobre la historia de las mujeres y la sociedad urbana bajomedieval. En general su trabajo se ha centrado en la Castilla del siglo XV y en las relaciones de poder. Desde hace más de diez años estudia el papel del agua en las ciudades medievales, tema sobre el que ha dirigido varios Proyectos de investigación obtenidos en convocatorias españolas competitivas y ha realizado numerosas publicaciones. Ha participado como invitada en numerosos congresos nacionales e internacionales, en Europa, América y Japón. Ha impartido clases como profesora invitada en diversas universidades españolas, y también extranjeras, entre ellas las de Estrasburgo, Lille, Toulouse, Pau y Rouen, Oporto y Heidelberg, la UNAM de México, las japonesas de Nara y Osaka City, la Católica de Chile y el CONICET de Argentina, así como en el Instituto de Historia Económica de Prato (Italia), y el Centre de Recherches Historiques de l’École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales-CNRS de París. En su faceta de conferenciante ha visitado también diversos centros culturales y de formación, entre ellos en Instituto Cervantes de Nueva York.

 

 

Professor Pedro Dias

Full Professor of Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra (the Faculty of Arts, University of Coimbra). Developed research in Spain, Italy, Holland, Germany, France, Italy, Brazil and India. He joined the Centro de História da Sociedade e da Cultura do Instituto Nacional de Investigação Científica (Society and Culture History Center of the National Institute of Scientific Research). He was General Director of Instituto dos Arquivos Nacionais/Torre do Tombo (Institute of National Archives / Torre do Tombo) and General Director of Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal ( the National Library of Portugal). He is member of the following academies: Academia Nacional de Belas Artes; Academia de Marinha, Academia Portuguesa da História, Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando de Madrid, Real Academia de Bellas Artes de la Puríssima Concepción de Valladolid, Real Academia de Extremadura de Letras y Artes, Sociedade de Geografia de Lisboa (the National Academy of Fine Arts; Academy of Navy, Portuguese Academy of History, Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, Real Academia de Bellas Artes de la Purisima Concepcion de Valladolid, Real Academy of Extremadura of Art and Letters, Lisbon Geographical Society). He was member of Comité Internacional de História da Arte (the International Art History Committee) until 2007. He received the Medalha de Mérito de Belas Arte – Classe de Ouro (Art Fine Merit Medal - Gold Class); Medalha de Mérito Cultural do Instituto Luso-Árabe para a Cooperação; (Cultural Merit Medal of the Luso-Arab Institute for Cooperation); Medalha de Ouro da Cidade de Coimbra (Gold Medal of the City of Coimbra). He was awarded by His Excellency the President of the Republic with Comendador degree of Ordem do Infante D. Henrique (Order of Infante D. Henrique).
